NIWR and Latino Justice Urge Public Pension Funds to Support DEIA and Divest from Tesla

October 17, 2024
By NIWR

The National Institute for Workers’ Rights and Latino Justice have jointly urged three of the largest public pension funds—California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CALPERS), New York City Employees’ Retirement System (NYCERS), and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)—to divest from Tesla due to the company’s poor record of discrimination and its CEO’s opposition to workplace diversity and inclusion. These pension funds manage billions for workforces with a high percentage of workers of color and have expressed support for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The letters are part of the NIWR’s recent corporate accountability efforts in response to right-wing attacks on initiatives promoting opportunity and inclusion.
